Curiosity's First Look at Mars

"There's something about the landing site that just looks right to me..."

Since landing on Mars on 5 August 2012, NASA's Curiosity rover has been living up to its name.

Slowing exploring the floor of the Gale Crater, the rover has captured and transmitted some remarkable images of the red planet.

This short video summary from Nature features the first images and talks to NASA project scientists John Grotzinger and Joy Crisp talk about what they may reveal about the planet.

As the rover begins its first drive towards the foot of Mount Sharp they look ahead to the ultimate goal of the mission – to explore the different past environment of Mars and find signs of water.
