About this video
A closer look at our local star.
The sun has been at the centre of human civilisation for millennia and our daily life cycles are pinned to its very presence. While modern science has made great progress in studying its function, there’s still a great deal we have to learn.
Solar scientist, Dr Helen Mason looks at what we do know about our local star and talks about her passion and drive to understand its complexity. Through the use of new imaging techniques were able to get a better understanding of the processes that drive it and apply this to the study of stars further out in the universe.
